"Nothingness"
Inspired by the Buddhist concept of “emptiness” while writing my EPQ, I undertook a research project on “nothingness”. I widened my lens to incorporate multiple Western and Eastern philosophical traditions, assessing their hermeneutics. Building upon this theoretical exploration, I delved into the intersection of philosophy and modern art, particularly the works of Pollock and Rothko.
After finishing a dissertation that will be published in the Arts, Culture, Language academic journal (Dean & Francis Press, ISSN 2959-6122), I wanted to convey my understanding of nothingness visually, so I made a short film. Across the scenes, I layered in words from Parmenides, Laozi, and Heidegger. To me, this project extended beyond research into a meditative exploration of nothingness, assigning form to the esoteric concept.
