"Nothingness"

Inspired by the Buddhist concept of “emptiness” while writing my EPQ, I undertook a research project on “nothingness”. I widened my lens to incorporate multiple Western and Eastern philosophical traditions, assessing their hermeneutics. Building upon this theoretical exploration, I delved into the intersection of philosophy and modern art, specifically the works of Pollock and Rothko.

After finishing a dissertation that's been published by Dean & Francis Press in its Arts, Culture, Language academic journal (ISSN 2959-6122) Vol. 1 No. 6 (2025): issue 6 (https://doi.org/10.61173/ppctad24), I wanted to convey my understanding of nothingness visually, so I made a short film. Across the scenes, I layered in words from Parmenides, Laozi, and Heidegger. To me, this project extended beyond research into a meditative exploration of nothingness, assigning form to the esoteric concept.
